In recognition of more than 25 years helping others through legal aid service, LANWT Managing Attorney Monique Lopez-Hinkley was honored with the prestigious J. Chrys Dougherty Legal Services Award by the Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee of the State Bar of Texas. The award honors Monique’s impressive record of providing direct legal representation to low-income clients in Texas while also serving as managing attorney for one of Legal Aid’s largest branch offices.

During her career thus far, Monique has personally helped more than 5,000 low-income women and their families who faced legal challenges too daunting for them to handle themselves. For the last several years she has managed a service area covering 7 counties: Tarrant County, with a population more than 2 million, and 6 largely rural counties.

Responsible for 22 lawyers, Monique oversees the partnerships with the Center for Transforming Lives and One Safe Place; an annual expungement expo with the district attorney and pro bono attorneys from the L. Clifford Davis Legal Association; the collaborative legal clinics and pro bono programs with the Tarrant County Bar Association; and her office’s Equal Justice Volunteer Program.
