Staff Profile - Johnathon Graves
Driven by a profound calling to serve the vulnerable, a conviction that took root even before law school, Johnathon Graves' journey led him to Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas’ (LANWT’s) Lubbock office in 2016. He began by championing the rights of domestic violence survivors in family law cases. Over time, his unwavering commitment to the community's multifaceted legal needs broadened his practice to encompass crucial areas such as homeownership, guardianship, family law, and the removal of employment barriers.
A proud graduate of Baylor University with a bachelor's degree in journalism, Johnathon furthered his education at Texas Tech University School of Law. Having grown up in the Lubbock area, his deep understanding of West Texas’ unique challenges fuels his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community that shaped him.
Since earning his Texas law degree in 2016, Johnathon has built an impressive record of success in diverse legal matters, including divorce, custody disputes, wills, guardianships, expunctions, nondisclosures, name changes, driver license restoration, and real property heirship. Recognizing his expertise and dedication, LANWT recently appointed Johnathon as the team leader of its Employment Law Practice group.
Johnathon has demonstrated exceptional leadership in organizing barrier removal clinics focused on expunctions and nondisclosures. The overwhelming demand for these services often necessitates multiday events, ensuring that those seeking assistance receive legal counsel and a pathway to overcoming obstacles hindering their employment prospects.
Of particular significance to Johnathon is his work in guardianship cases. He keenly understands the critical need to safeguard vulnerable individuals lacking the capacity for self-direction. Recognizing that the often-prohibitive costs of guardianship proceedings can create significant barriers to families, Johnathon views legal aid as a vital lifeline in ensuring equitable access for all.
